- Writing formally means writing using words that are precise, objective, and impersonal. In other words, it means writing in a language of textbooks.
When writing a school report or giving a presentation, using appropriate words is important. These are important tips to remember.
-
Do not use slang
Examples: dope, rad, totally amazing stuff
- Avoid contractions
Examples: they’re, can’t
- Avoid addressing the reader in the second person
Examples: you
- Do not write the way you speak to a friend
